Cinemoments: Henry V

Cinemoments: Henry V

During these trying and uncertain times, we hope to be able to spread a little bit of love and movie magic by showcasing some of our favourite moments in film.

This week, our Director of International Sales, Graham Fulton, has picked a stirring clip from 1944's Henry V. Based on one of Shakespeare’s most popular historical plays and filmed near the end of World War II, the film was made to help boost morale for the British public.

A trio of Oscar® nominations (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Original Score), along with a special Academy Award® to producer/director/star Laurence Olivier, only affirmed the film’s charmed existence.

This stirring clip features Henry's famous St Crispin's Day speech, on the eve of the battle of Agincourt, where he urges his men, who are vastly outnumbered by the French, to recall how the English had previously inflicted great defeats upon the French. The speech made famous the phrase 'band of brothers' as Henry V rallies that every commoner who fights alongside the king will become his brother.
