Guys and Dolls

Guys and Dolls

Following its premiere at Venice Classics and with a subsequent screening at the , the new restoration of Samuel Goldwyn Films' Guys and Dolls will hit big screens across the UK from 19 December.

Featuring iconic Frank Loesser tunes like Luck Be a Lady Tonight and Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat performed by an all-star cast that includes Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, Guys and Dolls is a classic Hollywood musical; a high-stakes story of New York's gambling underworld that's light on its feet and sweeter than a round of dulce de leche.

Nathan Detroit, the fixer of New York's longest established floating crap game and one half of Broadway's longest established engagement, is feeling the heat on all sides. The cops are bearing down on him, his impatient clientele have full wallets and itchy dice fingers, and his fiancée is demanding a wedding that's been 14 years in the making.

Desperate for cash to arrange his next game, Detroit makes a sucker bet with travelling high-roller Sky Masterson: woo the leader of the local save-a-soul mission, or lose $1000. Masterson heads for Havana while Detroit heads underground, but both gambler and fixer get more than they bargained for when love and the law start to close in on their games and the stakes start to rise heavenward.

Restored by Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Imaging and Samuel Goldwyn, Guys and Dolls gets another roll of the dice on 19 December, opening at BFI Southbank, Irish Film Institute Dublin and selected cinemas nationwide.
