Casablanca celebrates its 70th birthday today by returning to the place it belongs, up on the silver screen. Opening in cinemas up and down the country for Valentine's Day and beyond in a restored digitized print, Rick's Café is well and truly open for business again.
The eternal appeal of Michael Curtiz' wonderful wartime romancer noir starring Bogart, Bergman and assorted Hollywood character actor royalty is difficult to put into words but that hasn't stopped writers and critics trying to do just that this time around. The five star reviews are a given but the passion for a film celebrating its sapphire anniversary is positively heartwarming.
Casablanca is the greatest 102 minutes you could ever have in the cinema.
