The Collector

William Wyler’s excellent adaptation of John Fowles unsettling novel. A mild-mannered bank teller and butterfly collector kidnaps the object of his affections, a young art student, for his collection. Frederick (Terence Stamp) is a lonely young man who collects butterflies. After winning a large sum of money, he buys an isolated country house and begins stalking pretty, young art student, Miranda (Samantha Eggar). He kidnaps her and locks her in his windowless stone cellar that he has prepared with a bed, some furnishings, and an electric heater. As Miranda tries all her cunning to escape, her surreal nightmare is only just beginning.
