A film of three parts, each with a different name. The first, Red Peppers, tells the story of a married couple who are also a song and dance act. As they move from place to place, they find themselves involved in arguments and farcical stage shows. The next, Fumed Oak, tells of another couple, Henry and Doris. Henry is constantly nagged and teased by his wife, until one day he can take it no longer. After years of silence, he erupts into a fury, with dramatic consequences for all. Thirdly, Ways and Means recounts the adventures of Stella and Toby Cartwright, a debt-ridden couple who decide to gamble for a change in fortunes.
