Cinemoments: Sherlock Jr.

Cinemoments: Sherlock Jr.

During these trying and uncertain times, we hope to be able to spread a little bit of love and movie magic by showcasing some of our favourite moments in film.

Our Technical Operations Executive Gareth Tennant has picked this brilliantly entertaining short clip from 1924 Buster Keaton silent comedy classic, Sherlock Jr.

Named in 2005 by TIME as one of the All-TIME 100 Movies, Sherlock Jr. was one of Buster's most complicated films for special optical effects and in-camera tricks. He plays a movie projectionist who daydreams himself into the movies he is showing and merges with the figures and the backgrounds on the screen. While dreaming he is Conan Doyle's master detective, he snoops out brilliant discoveries.

In this short 'I lost a dollar' sequence, Buster is sweeping up in the cinema foyer when he encounters a few unexpected guests to great comedic effect...
