Following a stint in rehab, Hollywood actress and recovering drug addict, Suzanne Vale is instructed by her agent that she must have a “responsible party” supervise her before the studio will allow her to return to work. This prompts a reluctant Suzanne to move back into the Beverly Hills home of her mother, Doris Mann - an enormously popular musical comedy star of the 50s and 60s, and an overbearing presence that Suzanne has tried to escape since her adolescence. Thrown together, the two women try to establish a genuine connection with each other and find the common ground that they have neglected for years.
