Charles Laughton won an Oscar for his portrayal of Henry VIII, one of Britain’s most famous monarchs, as he moves from wife to wife. On the same day as Anne Boleyn is beheaded, Henry marries his third wife, Jane Seymour. She, however, dies in childbirth, after which he is forced into a political match with Anne of Cleves. Their amicable divorce allows him to marry the headstrong Catherine Howard. She does not last very long, either, due to her infidelity.
