September 2013 marks the 100-year anniversary of the birth of Hollywood’s most beloved director and producer. Stanley Kramer was the man who put social consciousness back into American cinema after the hardships of the World War II. He toiled at the coal face of liberal cinema like few others, crafting and investing in films that dealt with the uneasy issues of racism, fascism, Christian fundamentalism, consumerism and the threat of nuclear war. Yet Kramer was no tub-thumping earnest soul, he could also do funny and carefree as his brilliant epic comedy It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World attests.
Anyway this is just a heads up, there’s a cinematic storm a-coming and it’s got Stanley Kramer’s name on it. Batten down the hatches, throw out your prejudiced mates and book with the best.
