Mel Brooks' gleeful, irreverent and downright silly Star Wars pastiche comes back into orbit on a lovely new DCP. To be fair Spaceballs never really went away, cinemas across the universe have been booking Brooks’ 1987 comedy, and packing them in, ever since President Skroob sent Lord Dark Helmet to steal Planet Druidia's air supply.
In fact demand for the new DCP of Spaceballs is currently so high that this summer it will be screening in cinemas in Chicago, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin and Seattle.
Co-written by regular Brooks collaborator Thomas Meehan (To Be Or Not To Be) Spaceballs is the definitive Star Wars spoof. Featuring hilarious tongue-in-cheek performances from John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga and John Hurt with additional voiceover work from Joan Rivers as Dot Matrix, Spaceballs is the Lucas lampoon to end them all. In fact Spaceballs had such countercultural resonance that it was revived between 2008-9 for Spaceballs: The Animated Series.
Book Spaceballs on DCP today. May the schwartz be with you.
