John Hughes was a prolific producer, writer and director and the driving force behind the teen film boom of the 1980s. With a light touch and a keen eye, he wrote and directed colourful films that portrayed the American high school experience and resonated with young people the world over. They captured the angst and ennui of teenage life and dealt with everyday problems, such as Saturday detentions and unrequited love, and spoke to teenagers in their language.

His films helped launch the careers of Matthew Broderick, Michael Keaton, Macaulay Culkin, John Candy, Molly Ringwald, Bill Paxton and Judd Nelson.

This season celebrates John Hughes' teen movies with screenings across the UK and internationally.
